This Chemical “Family” is No Family

Good For The Whole Family

It’s on the shelf, it has to be safe, right? My government wouldn’t let anyone harm my child. Would they? They’ve been selling their wholesome “baby products” for years. I must have seen the television commercial a hundred times. I’ve even heard them say it’s safe and gentle, with no tears.

They claim to be a family company. Sounds good to me. But should I believe everything just because it’s on television and there’s a smiling young woman bathing her happy baby?

This so-called “family company” is the same one that created a subsidiary to market the neurotoxic artificial sweetener, Splenda. Here’s a tidbit for those of you on the fence about Splenda. According to the site, Lawyers and Settlements,

This Chemical Family is No Family.jpg

the sweetening ingredient in Splenda, is a man-made chlorocarbon and that a complex process is required to first convert sucrose (sugar) into a number of different intermediary chemicals before using "phosgene gas - a deadly weapon used during World War II - as the chlorinating agent to yield sucralose." Their claim, "Made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar," and "Good for the whole family." Does that sound like a family company?

Let’s take a look at two of their most popular baby products on the market today. Their advertising dollars are well spent, and the added “a family company,” as the ad closer is a nice touch. Just gives you the warm and fuzzes, doesn’t it? That good feeling will fade when you look at how toxic their “baby products” are.

EWG scientists reviewed ingredient data of

Johnson’s Baby Shampoo

Johnson’s Baby Lotion,

which revealed moderate-high concerns for allergies, misc. skin, eyes or lung irritation. Immune system toxicity, and organ system toxicity.

Does that sound like a safe and gentle product? It’s full of harmful chemicals. I wouldn’t want that on my baby.

According to the Harmony Foundation:

After a number of years and pressure from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and support of the American Nurses Association, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Environmental Working Group, Breast Cancer Fund and others, Johnson & Johnson agreed to act responsibly and formulate their lotions, cleansers and sundry personal care products to omit “chemicals of concern” by 2015.

As of 2017 the Environmental Working Group scientists find Johnson’s Baby Shampoo continues to contain many dangerous (unregulated/untested) chemicals. Chemicals toxic to human organs, immune system, respiratory system, and irritation to skin, lungs, and eyes. Wildlife and environmental toxicity is also a concern.

Corporations typically promise to make their products safer. After several years transpires, they continue business as usual, assuming the trusting public has forgotten. Which of course, they have. Which clever and deceptive advertising they continue to manipulate the public mind. Johnson & Johnson products continue to be problematic and should be avoided at all costs.

No words can express the shock and horror of what we've found. Please visit EWG’s Skin Deep database and discover how safe your products are. You can also check your cleaning products, food and more to see how they rate. Vulnerable children and pregnant mothers are most at risk.

At Eden’s Corner we care for the health of you and our planet. We have carefully chosen personal care products that do not poison to protect.

The Environmental Working Group- a watchdog organization whose mission is to help protect children, educate parents and safeguard the environment from unregulated chemical toxins in food, water, personal care, cleaning products, and more- has compiled an extensive database where you can see how popular brands stock up and rate your personal favorites.

Important Note:

Personal care and cleaning product makers change formulations periodically. We do our best to stay abreast of any changes. Always read labels and if you should find a product that we’ve recommended yet no longer endorsed by the EWG, please contact us with details at

Why Are U.S. Companies Allowed to Sell Toxic Products to Consumers?

The U. S. Chemical Industry has a lot of buying (bribing) power in Washington and in the media (consistent and repetitious television advertising is responsible for brainwashing the public). With virtually no regulation of the 80,000+ chemicals used in virtually every customer product, consumers risk their health and the health of the planet every time they purchase an item that is not organic or ethically sourced (Certified organic, green or EWG verified.)

As we continue to vote with our dollars

and buy safe products that are ethically sourced/created, we send a loud message to the chemical companies:

We care about our family’s health and the health of future generations.

Virtually every commercial personal care product in the U.S. contains SLS, a by-product of Palm Oil. Every time a consumer purchases ANY product with Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate (SLS) they are contaminating their bodies and contributing to

mass deforestation of rain forests.

Please choose wisely, choose responsibly.
