Do-it-Yourself
Fabric Softener

Everyone loves the feeling of soft, static-free clothes fresh from the dryer or clothesline.
Commercial advertisers and their claims of heavenly soft, static free, and sweet-smelling fragrance, have been successfully convincing the unwary consumer to buy their products.

Unfortunately, commercial products and their deceptive
advertising that “smell good,” are toxic to you and your family.
Why pay for expensive advertising that sells you toxic, cancer-causing chemicals? (Sorry about that, I hate to be the bearer of bad news.) See how your current fabric softener rates on the toxicity scale here.
According to Josh Axe, M.D., “Dryer sheets are a toxic rip off and you’re paying for a product that could actually be making you sick.” Just in case you aren’t sold, here’s what the science has to say about the health and environmental contaminants found in those innocent looking dryer sheets.
Why Are U.S. Companies Allowed to Sell Toxic Products to Consumers?
The U. S. Chemical Industry has a lot of buying power in Washington and in the media. With virtually no regulation of 80,000 chemicals, consumers take big risks every time they purchase an item that is not organic or ethically source (Certified green in the case of cleaning products.) As more of us choose to vote with our dollars and buy safe products, the chemical companies will get the message.
This DIY Fabric Softener costs only pennies to make. It’s effective, safe for you and your family, your pets, and won’t harm the environment like common store brands do.
Ditch the toxic dryer sheets and liquid for this simple ingredient. It freshens and disinfect your clothes without poisoning you and your family.
3 Laundry Uses for Vinegar
Vinegar softens, freshens/disinfects, combats lint/static cling and helps remove stains. It’s that simple. Costs only pennies, and no, your clothes won’t smell of vinegar!
Ingredients:
-
Soften – Disinfect – Remove Stains
½ c. white, distilled vinegar into your machine’s softener dispenser
Also protects colors from fading.
-
Prevent Lint - Static Cling
½ c. white, distilled vinegar
Avoid combining synthetic and natural fibers. Synthetic material encourages lint and static cling. Air dry synthetics such as polyester, whenever possible.
-
Soften Stiff Clothes
½ c. white, distilled vinegar to your wash at the start of the washing cycle will soften new and older clothing.
CAUTION: Avoid mixing vinegar with bleach.
Best to avoid bleach all together as it is extremely toxic to you and the environment. Choose a safer, peroxide based bleach for your whitening needs.
Pregnant and breastfeeding moms should be especially careful for the sake of themselves as well as their developing children.
The use of fabric softener dryer sheets won't permanently damage your dryer but they may affect its operating efficiency. And, when efficiency is reduced, your utility bills go higher. Just as the dryer sheets leave a residue on your clothing that makes the fabric feel softer, they also leave residue in your dryer.
