Carpet Fresh by DIY Eden's Corner.

Carpet Fresh

Years ago, I discovered that store bought commercial carpet fresh was mainly baking soda. Of course I decided to save a bundle and make my own.

Dog, Cat and vacuum on carpet display with the do it yourself products.

That was then. Today, commercial carpet freshener is replete with undisclosed chemicals,

overpriced baking soda, and a “fresh fragrancethat is toxic to people, pets, and the environment.

FYI: If a cleaning product label reads safe, non-toxic, or green, it can contain hazardous ingredients.

How Fresh is “Carpet Fresh?”

“Carpet Fresh”ener gets a D rating from the

Environmental Working Group.

No product disclosure raises a big, red flag. In addition to the fact that the company WD 40 makes the stuff.

Kids and pets breathe and play on the floor. Another good reason to make your own.

If you’ve got pets, kids or a well-used carpet, you’ll love the incredible deodorizing effect of our DIY Carpet Fresh.

With no harsh chemicals, you needn’t worry that your kids or pets are exposed to potentially dangerous poisons. Clean your home safely and effectively.  No need to poison to clean and protect.

The Environmental Working Group, in a ground-breaking initiative to uncover the truth about toxic chemicals in household products, found even some hyped as “green,” or “natural,” can inflict serious harm and present severe risks to children who may ingest, spill, or breathe their fumes. highlights the worst of the worst. Many of these cleaners are banned in Europe. (And very popular in America.) It is evident, European governments oversee their chemical industries and care about the safety of their citizens.

Chemical companies in the U.S. are well protected and are not required to list their ingredients on the label. You’d have to be a chemist to decipher them anyway. 80,000 unregulated chemicals, and only a few hundred have been tested for safety. As more of us choose to vote with our dollars and buy safe products, the chemical companies will get the message. Rate your cleaning product at EWG.

Pregnant and breastfeeding moms should be especially careful for the sake of themselves as well as their developing children.

Pint or quart glass bottle or jar with shaker top  – To minimize the environmental burden to landfills and the ocean, we use glass containers whenever possible, for our DIY products.

Mix all ingredients in a small glass bowl. Pour into a bottle or jar. For easy application use a container with a shaker top.

Sprinkle generously over carpet and allow to sit for several hours. Vacuum.

You’ll love the fresh, real scent that only nature can provide.

Vacuum cleaner: Sprinkle 5-10 drops of your favorite oil on your vacuum’s filter, vacuum bag, or dust container.

Why Baking Soda?

Baking soda is a powerhouse when it comes to cleaning. It’s a potent deodorizer and stain remover. Contains anti-bacterial properties. A staple in your cleaning product tool kit.

Why Essential Oils and not Fragrance Oils?

Essential oils- the essence of the real plant or herb- are organic compounds extracted from plants. Their healing powers of aromatherapy can improve mental, physical and emotional health.

Fragrance oils are chemically derived and toxic to people, pets, and the environment. And according to the National Academy of Sciences, about 95% of chemicals used in synthetic fragrances are derived from petroleum, and other known toxic chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, allergies, and central nervous system disorders. They’re in everything from shampoos, lotions, laundry detergents, air fresheners, cleaning products, and often listed as “fragrance.” (There are over 3,000 different chemical fragrances in commercial products.) For an in-depth look into the serious side effects of synthetic scents see Dr. Axe’s informative and revealing article.

This DIY Carpet Freshener costs only pennies to make. It’s effective, safe for you and your family, your pets, and won’t harm the environment like common store brands do.
